What % of Americans think bottled water is...
A. environmentally bad (eg. astute, guilt-prone nyt readers)
B. great (eg. suburban moms who buy cases of handy water at costco because they want their family to drink more water)
C. not as tasty as other beverages (eg. people who think about other things)
My guess: 3%, 30%, 67%.
My guess of average NYT reader's guess: 25%, 75%, 25%
It's like adbusters who don't get donks or that some people take great pride in being branded.
Plenty of events (family functions, religious affairs, etc) serve every beverage but water. At a deep-in-brooklyn bowling alley last week, the snackbar clerk looked at me funny when I asked to buy a bottle of water. She said they've got pepsi & beer. Water, nor the 'don't drink water because of the environment' meme, has crossed the chasm to her. It'll change. But the current lack of bottled water at this bowling alley has nothing to do with guilt, despite what you'd think if you read the NYT.
